In 1999 Shanghai, there were only two options for Western food: expensive burgers in hotels or McDonald's. Variety in terms of Western food was scarce, and so was service.

When Bob Boyce opened his first restaurant — then called Kathleen’s, serving classic Western fare in a stylish, relaxed setting, with friendly service and reasonable prices — people immediately took notice. That original restaurant, which evolved into KABB BISTRO BAR in 2001, was an instant hit. Bob built on that success to found a second restaurant, the first blue frog bar & grill, in 2002. These two successful brands paved the way for a family of bars and restaurants that have become the blue horizon hospitality group.
