Part of the Jane Goodall Institute, Roots & Shoots is a global environmental and humanitarian program for youth. There are Roots & Shoots groups all over the world with 135 across China and 100 of those in Shanghai alone. The charity emphasizes intercultural interaction and promotes care and concern for the environment, animals, and other people through community service projects and educational activities. This program began in 1991 in Tanzania. Its dramatic growth and acceptance is testimony to the universal good it can do, and the positive effect it has, not only on the environment, but on the children who participate.
Roots & Shoots members include preschool to university level youth in more than 75 countries around the world. Dr. Goodall's hope is to inspire students to make the world a better place for all living things.
In July 2006, two of our chefs volunteered to take part in a poverty alleviation trip to their home province of Anhui. They used their cooking skills and knowledge of local produce to provide three meals a day for thirty hard-working young volunteers in very basic conditions.
In September 2006, our in-venue promotion saw 10 rmb from every Heineken beer sale in blue frog bar & grill and every Caesar Salad sale in KABB BISTRO BAR donated to the charity.
In 2007, blue frog was the first company to plant a complete forest as part of the Roots & Shoots Million Tree Project in Kulun Qi, Inner Mongolia. Each year since, our team has participated in this project and now have 10,091 trees in the ground.
Throughout the years, we also have been delighted to host several volunteer events in our venues, one of which was attended by Jane Goodall herself.
